To coincide with the exhibition ‘Colours of Impressionism’ currently on show at the ‘Art Gallery of South Australia’, Splashout Art Studios is delighted to present ‘The Impressionists’.  A Workshop that has come about as a result of visiting the Exhibition.  We felt moved to share the story, the principles and the styles of ‘The Impressionist’ Artists themselves.  So, because we can, we decided to do this in the form of a rather special Workshop.

About The Impressionists

In the late 1800s, a major shift transpired in the city of Paris that was to change the nature of Art forever.

An audacious young painter named Claude Monet dared to enter his artwork ‘Impression Sunrise’ for showing at the Paris Salon.  The judges were horrified and the work was rejected. Monet became the laughing stock of the very established and traditional art society of Paris.  However he persevered and along with a group of other young pioneers, stood up to and faced their critics to finally become probably one of the most influential art movements the world has ever seen.  Their story will be told more fully, with slideshow, in our Workshop.

The photos on this page show nine of the original Impressionist artists, however there were many more who joined and followed in the ensuing years.
