A message from our Presenter:
“We remember Matisse for his use of colour and pattern, original and fluid draughtsmanship and subject matter. He was a master of simplicity and worked endlessly to make it all seem so easy. He travelled extensively to exotic destinations in search of colourful fabric and inspirational ideas, some of which we shall explore.
In this workshop we will be focusing on his use of colour, fabric patterning and his love of the draped female form. We will start with a well researched slideshow of his life and Artworks, plus I will share with you some Art History with ‘The Matisse Story’.
I’m always delighted to present this workshop. I have personally taken Splashout Groups to the home of Henri Matisse on the French Riviera and on Private Guided Tours of The ‘Matisse’ Gallery in Nice. I know you will find the Matisse Story, plus learning how to develop his unique painting style, rich and informative.” – Krystyna Ciesiolkiewicz

ABOUT MATISSE
Henri Matisse (1869 – 1954) was a French artist, known for his use of colour. He was leader of the Fauvist movement, but by the 1920s he was increasingly recognised as an upholder of traditional French painting. Matisse used colour as the foundation for expressive and decorative paintings.
Matisse loved pattern, not only the decorative forms shown in his own compositions, but also the reproduction of tapestries, embroideries, silks, awnings, the bright clutter of over-furnished rooms, within the painting. He also especially enjoyed and excelled in painting women draped in exotic materials. See samples of Matisse Artworks below.
